When the integrated valve is opened, the foam absorbs the introduced air and expands to its fullest loft. By allowing less inhibited airflow, cross-width "tubes" drilled into the body of the Traditional pad help reduce weight and aid in the ease of inflation and deflation. Once the Traditional sleeping pad has been given adequate time to fully inflate, the firmness of the pad can be fine-tuned by simply adding a few extra puffs of air or releasing air before fully closing the valve.
